Sc focuses on the systematic study of human social institutions and social relationships. The program will help students develop core strategic areas of required expertise such as social stratification and hierarchies, family structures, social theory, sociological research methods, social organization and structure, dynamics of social change, social deviance and control, and applications to the study of specific social groups, social institutions, and social problems.

The Sociology program is designed to advance the professional development of experienced sociology graduates and professionals in the sociology arena by extending their knowledge and equipping them with broad research and process sociology skills, enabling them to make a key leadership contribution to their chosen fields. Your AIU Distance Learning Doctorate program in Sociology will be a custom-made program, designed just for you by you and your advisor.

This flexibility to meet your needs is seldom found in other distance learning programs. Our program does not require every student to study the same subjects and use the same books and other learning materials as every other student.

Instead our online Doctoral programs are designed just for you. They are individually designed to meet your needs and help you to reach your professional and personal goals. Important: Below is an example of the topics or areas you may develop and work on during your studies. By no means is it a complete or required list as AIU programs do not follow a standardized curriculum. Our graduates make meaningful contributions to the field of sociology, publishing books and articles that receive recognition and awards and often changing the public agenda in important ways.

All sociology students accepted into the PhD program receive full tuition and some students receive fellowship support. The fellowship may be renewed for up to five years conditional on satisfactory performance. While on fellowship funding, PhD students are required to act as teaching or research fellows as part of their fellowship support.

PhD students also receive tuition remission through the university through their fifth year. Some teaching jobs beyond the fifth year may be available at Brandeis and other local colleges. GRE required. Request official test scores to be sent directly to the Graduate School by the testing service.

Applicants to the Sociology Ph. All students entering the program must complete the M. All applicants are encouraged to contact programs directly to discuss program specific application questions. Some academic departments recommend that international applicants, living outside of the United States, and planning on pursuing a research based degree, submit a preapplication form before submitting a full application.

If your desired program is not on the form, departments prefer a full application be submitted. Preapplication requests will be carefully reviewed and a decision usually provided within 3 weeks.

If your preapplication is approved then it is recommended you then submit a full application. If you are currently living in the United States on a H1B visa, etc.
