If you've always wondered where the TV show was filmed then you're in luck — here's what we know Heartbeat was set in the fictional town of Ashfordly and the village of Aidensfield. But although both these towns might be made up, they're set in the North Riding of Yorkshire, which is where a lot of the filming took place. The majority of the scenes, particularly external scenes, were filmed in Goathland, a village in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire.

The show was mostly filmed in and around the Yorkshire countryside. Many landmarks from the show are recognisable to this day, including the stores, the public house and the railway station. After filming interior shots in the hotel for some years, a replica of it was built in Yorkshire TV's Leeds studio.

As well as Goathland, the cast and crew from ITV headed to other locations in and around the North England county to shoot scenes.
